Banana fish

EXT. PARK - DAY
AMALIA (21) is reading a book in a park. She has a Victorian beauty, self-possessed, unique and charming.

LORENA (25) also attractive but less powerful, walks nearby eating an apple. She seats on the edge of the same bench as Amalia.

Lorena peeps Amalia’s book “Short stories” by Salinger. Lorena turns her face to the opposite side of Amalia. Amalia looks back to Lorena. She is annoyed by her presence. Lorena is about to say something.

AMALIA

(uncomfortable)
Yes...

LORENA

Bananafish, right?

AMALIA

Yes.

LORENA

Do you think
he rapes her?

AMALIA

What?

LORENA

The book, Seymour Glass
with the little girl
and that whole thing about
catching the banana fish in the water.

AMALIA

That’s twisted.

Pause

LORENA

What’s your name?

Amalia doesn’t look at Lorena, she keeps reading the book.

AMALIA

Alice.

LORENA

Nice to meet you Alice.
My name is Lorena.

Lorena shows her hand as an attempt of waving. Amalia ignores her. Lorena waves both hands together.

LORENA (CONT’D)

(sarcastically)
Yeah, nice to meet you Lorena.
